Bishop Bawai Soro was born in Kirkuk, Iraq, in 1954. He was ordained a priest in 1982 in the Assyrian Church of the East and consecrated a bishop in 1984. Bishop Soro studied theology at the Catholic University of America and earned a doctorate in ecclesiology from the Angelicum in Rome in 2002. In 2008, he entered in Communion with the Catholic Church. And then, in 2017, Pope Francis appointed Soro bishop of the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto. Bishop Soro has published many articles and lectures widely on topics of history and theology.
