William Matthew McCarter

William Matthew McCarter is Professor of English at Southwestern Illinois College, where he teaches literature, philosophy, and composition. He holds a PhD in Literature from the University of Texas at Arlington, an MFA in Creative Writing from Lindenwood University, and graduate training in American history, philosophy, and pedagogy from multiple institutions. His research and writing explore intersections of literature, law, religion, and cultural identity, with a particular focus on how working-class and rural voices engage questions of morality, democracy, and human rights.
