The State of Israel continues to play an important role in American policy discussions, capturing a disproportionate amount of space in media and public discourse relative to its size on the map. Words like “Zionism” and “Pro-Israel” elicit mixed responses across the political spectrum. American Christians often find themselves at the center of the debate raging over the political and biblical importance of this modern nation state. In addition, the Abraham Accords have raised new and pressing questions about the future of the modern Near East, American foreign policy, and Israel.

Walter Russel Mead’s The Arc of a Covenant is a timely and thought-provoking examination of the American-Israeli relationship and its role within American foreign policy. He documents the untold stories of this relationship, demolishing long-standing myths about Zionism and the so-called “Israel lobby.” Drawing from professional experiences, spanning his time in journalism and academia, Mead’s retelling of this dynamic history yields fresh insight into the future of the American-Israeli relationship, Zionism, and antisemitism.
