Louis DeCaro

Louis A. DeCaro Jr. holds a Ph.D. from New York University (NYU), and graduate degrees from Westminster Theological Seminary and NYU, respectively, in religious studies and history. Along with having served in two pastorates in the New York City area, he served as Professor of history at the former Alliance Theological Seminary in New York City for seventeen years. He is the author of two religiously-oriented biographical studies of Malcolm X and has devoted the last twenty-five years to research and writing about the radical Christian abolitionist, John Brown. Among his notable works on Brown are “Fire from the Midst of You”: A Religious Life of John Brown; Freedom’s Dawn: The Last Days of John Brown in Virginia; John Brown Speaks: Letters and Statements from Charlestown; and The Untold Story of Shields Green: The Life and Death of a Harper’s Ferry Raider.
