Max Prowant is a Research Associate with the Institute on Religion and Democracy. His work focuses on currents in Islamic extremism and its effect on Christian communities in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa. He both studies the radical, religious ideologies motivating jihadist organizations and tracks the developments of these groups. Max is a Ph.D. Candidate in Government at the University of Texas at Austin where he studies Sunni and Shia conceptions of jihad in the modern age. While at UT Austin, Max also conducted extensive study of classical political philosophy and Arabic. Originally from Kentucky, Max completed his Bachelors of Arts with Honors at Morehead State University in government and Spanish.
