International Religious Liberty

Given the Turkish government’s particularly troubling conduct in 2020, Secretary of State Antony Blinken should deliver an honest message about the alarming trajectory of religious freedoms in Turkey.

This week the editors discuss Paul D. Miller’s article about Israel and Hamas, an editorial from 1946 explaining how Americans needed to understand world religion better, a look at religious freedom in South America, and Dunkirk.

If we are to take a constructive part in world politics our leaders cannot assume that religious questions are unimportant.

Why is there a rise in progressive and secular movements in Latin America, a region predominately inhabited by Christians? How should Christians and non-Christians view this concerning trend and its implications for religious freedom?

Although religious liberty is stronger today than it often was in the past, there is still much progress to be made.

While these reports are never perfect, their existence reflects how the US government is uniquely positioned to serve as a global leader in the promotion of human rights. USCIRF’s commissioners and staff deserve commendation for producing them.

Given the gravity of the situation in China, the administration and Congress must step up efforts to hold the CCP accountable for its violations of religious freedom.
